TSP Attorneys Incorporated, originally known as H A Groenewald & Schoeman, was established on 1 May 1972 by Paul Schoeman and André Groenewald. These two attorneys, with their passion, skill and commitment to always providing the best legal advice to their clients, have provided the strong foundation and impeccable principles on which we still practise to this very day.

We have grown comprehensively during the past decade and now boast an expert legal team that specialises in most aspects of the law. We are also committed to transformation in the legal profession and ethical business is a top priority. In March 2014, we were welcomed into the biggest association of independent law firms in South Africa, namely the PH Group.

Stephan Terblanche and Cobus Slabber joined H A Groenewald & Schoeman as candidate attorneys. Stephan Terblanche joined the firm in 1986 and Cobus Slabber in 1994, and they are both well known in the legal profession in the Swartland and surrounding areas. Jean Pieters, who did his clerkship at Van Der Spuy & Partners (Cape Town), and thereafter practised in Mosselbay, joined Groenewald Schoeman & Terblanche in 1997.

In 2002, the business moved to its present address into a historical building in Truter Street and the name was changed to Terblanche Slabber Pieters, to represent the new partners of the firm. With time, the firm became well known, and established itself as TSP Attorneys.

TSP Attorneys developed from a small practice into a leading business in the Swartland, with a wide and diverse client base, specialising in various areas of the law. TSP Attorneys grew comprehensively during the past decade and in 2014 changed from a partnership to a private company, namely TSP Attorneys Incorporated, as it is known today.

In March 2014, we became part of one of the largest groups of independent law firms, the PH Group. In May 2014, Douglas Henney was appointed as a Non-Executive Director and served in this role until his retirement. He was succeeded by Stacey Bartlett on 1 April 2025.

In 2014, we were awarded the Diamond Arrow Award for best law firm in the West Coast region by PMR.africa, which proves our position as a leading law firm, ready to serve the needs of our clients in a professional, skilful and passionate manner.

The PH Group is the largest association of independent law firms in South Africa. The Group, currently comprising nearly 50 law firms, with 60 offices in 9 provinces and over 500 professionals, continues to grow year-on-year and expand its presence to major centres across South Africa.

The Group was founded by the Bloemfontein firm, PH Attorneys in response to an identified need for law firms to strategically position themselves for the future, and access the economies of scale of a national group with national visibility and brand awareness. Membership provides firms with a range of benefits ranging from vital support services, marketing infrastructure and strategic partnerships that create value, cost savings and business opportunities for firms.

Group members pool their resources and expertise to foster a national service directory and network of firms and professionals who can assist clients across South Africa, in addition to providing opportunities for candidate attorneys and professionals to work at firms in most major centres.

Although not contractually required of any firm, strong relationships and referral networks are naturally fomented between member firms, providing additional benefit to member firms.

The Group addresses the strategic need of firms to address their BEE profile, increase their firm visibility and differentiation in their respective regions and also nationally, access high-quality support services, enhance negotiating power with financial institutions, leverage cost reductions, and position themselves strategically for growth.
